Amazon Key Faces Security Concerns: Survey

Amazon Key Faces Security Concerns: Survey

An online survey conducted by ECT News Network from October 30 through November 6, 2017 invited readers to voice their opinions about Amazon Key -- a new service that will allow Amazon Prime members to receive in-home delivery of packages with the help of high-tech smart locks that let drivers open their front doors.

The question asked was...

Would you allow Amazon drivers to access your home using an electronic door lock with automatic video recording of each delivery?

The overwhelming majority of respondents, 62 percent, indicated that they are not willing to take the risks associated with privacy or security to allow drivers inside their residence, regardless of the special access door locks and video recording of the driver making a delivery.

Here are the results from 342 total responses*

  • Yes -- it would be much safer than leaving my packages outside. 11.40%
  • Maybe -- I like the idea, but I have some concerns. 15.20%
  • Probably not -- there would be too many pet issues. 7.31%
  • No -- but If I shopped more at Amazon I might consider it. 4.09%
  • Never -- I'm not willing to take the privacy or security risks. 61.99%

*These figures are the result of a non-scientific online survey.
